The Federal Government has said security agencies are unable to track terrorists posting ransom videos online because they use Elon Musk’s Starlink and foreign cellular networks.
Presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala stated this during a Nigeria Info interview, noting that locally registered internet services can be traced through IP addresses, but external platforms complicate investigations.
Explaining further, Bwala said, “If you are using Starlink, we cannot trace it because Starlink is not registered in Nigeria. It’s in the space.”
He added that terrorists often rely on mobile networks from neighbouring countries, making surveillance “tricky” for local security agencies despite efforts to pursue suspects involved in kidnapping and ransom activities.
