The Federal Government will open Section 1 of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway from December 12 to 17, with the project now over 80% complete and plans to commission Section 1 and half of Section 2 by April next year.
The Federal Government has announced that Section 1 of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway will be opened to the public between December 12 and 17, as the 47.47 km, six-lane stretch nears completion.
Minister of Works Dave Umahi stated during a project review in Lagos that the contractor, Hitech Construction Company Ltd., has completed over 80% of the reinforced concrete pavement and is progressing with remaining sand filling between Ahmadu Bello Way and Eleko Junction.
Umahi praised both the President and the contractor for their commitment, noting unexpected challenges such as deep pit removals up to 20 metres. Project officials, including the Lagos Controller of Works, highlighted ongoing settlement monitoring at Chainage 33, while Hitech’s Managing Director confirmed continued backfilling and dredging from Chainage 34 to 37 to keep the project on schedule.
