FG files 12-Count charge against Ozekhome over alleged UK property fraud, grants N10m bail

Mike Ozekhome was arraigned by the Federal Government over alleged forgery tied to a disputed UK property and was granted N10 million bail by an FCT High Court.

The Federal Government on Friday arraigned prominent lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, before an FCT High Court in Maitama over alleged involvement in a fraud scheme linked to ownership of a disputed property in the United Kingdom. Ozekhome, who was docked alongside Ponfa Useni, pleaded not guilty to a 12-count charge bordering on forgery and abetment before trial judge Chizoba Orji. Prosecutors alleged that the defendants conspired in 2020 to create a false Nigerian passport in the name “Tali Shani” to support a claim to a London property.

The prosecution further claimed the senior lawyer facilitated the property claim through an irrevocable power of attorney and collected £18,000 in rent from the property suspected to have been unlawfully obtained by late former FCT minister Jeremiah Useni. Following the defendants’ plea, the court granted bail in the sum of N10 million each with one surety in like sum, ordering them to surrender their international passports and remain in the country pending trial.
