The Federal Government has issued a flood warning to nine northern states and 15 communities, urging residents to evacuate flood-prone areas between August 25 and 29.
The Federal Government has warned that nine northern states and 15 communities may experience flooding between August 25 and 29, 2025, due to heavy rainfall.
The alert, issued by the Federal Ministry of Environment’s National Flood Early Warning Centre, was signed by Usman Abdullahi Bokani, Director of Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management.
States likely to be affected include Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara. Communities along the River Niger flood plain from Jebba to Lokoja were also advised to evacuate.
“Due to the rise in the water level of the River Niger, communities on the flood plain from Jebba to Lokoja are advised to evacuate,” the ministry said.
