Fear returns as bandits launch deadly attack in Sokoto community

Bandits killed a community Imam in Kiratawa, Sokoto State, shot a motorist along a nearby road, and abducted three people in a separate attack, heightening fears of renewed violence in the area.

Bandits attacked Kiratawa community in Sabon-Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Friday, killing the community Imam and shooting another person along the Takatsaba route. The incident was reported by Bakatsine (@DanKatsina50), who said the attackers first entered Kiratawa, where they killed the Imam before moving to the road near Dangulbi Bridge, where they set an ambush.

According to the report, the gunmen shot one person dead on the road before security operatives arrived at the scene, forcing the attackers to flee the area. Bakatsine noted that the route had been relatively calm in recent times, making the attack a disturbing development for residents and commuters who rely on the road.

In a related incident on Saturday, bandits stormed Fadamar Tarah, also in Sabon-Birni Local Government Area, abducting three people, including a pregnant woman. Bakatsine said there had been no attacks along that axis since the killing of Kallamu, described as a lieutenant of the notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, and asked, “Are we witnessing a continued wave of atrocities by Turji men in Sokoto East?”, warning that the attacks raise fears about the security of lives in Sokoto and its environs.
