FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino was absent from work Friday after a heated clash with Attorney General Pam Bondi over the handling of Jeffrey Epstein case files, sources told Axios.
The disagreement erupted at the White House on Wednesday after the administration reversed earlier claims about Epstein, confirming there was no celebrity client list and that he died by suicide.
At the center of the dispute was a 10-hour surveillance video from outside Epstein’s prison cell. Bongino had vouched for the video but failed to flag a “missing minute,” which reignited conspiracy theories online.
“Pam said her piece. Dan said his piece. It didn’t end on friendly terms,” one source said. Bongino reportedly stormed out.
While Bongino blamed Bondi for overpromising details on an Epstein client list, Bondi’s supporters pointed to Bongino’s failed push to resolve the issue through the video.
A DOJ memo signed by senior officials insisted all agencies agreed on the video’s release and conclusions. Bongino remains officially in his role—for now.
