The Federal Bureau of Investigation has charged a 24-year-old Nigerian, Damilola Bamigboye, with resisting arrest and abducting a US Department of Homeland Security Investigations agent in Minnesota.
According to court documents, the incident occurred on December 10 during an attempted arrest over an alleged visa overstay. Bamigboye was charged alongside Rekeya Frazier, accused of assisting in the abduction.
FBI documents said agents conducting surveillance on Bamigboye’s apartment in Plymouth identified him inside a Jeep with Frazier. When agents approached and identified themselves, Bamigboye allegedly ordered Frazier to drive off, resulting in a federal agent being involuntarily carried inside the vehicle as it fled, triggering a police pursuit with sirens and emergency lights activated.
The vehicle later stopped near a police station, after which Bamigboye fled on foot but was arrested at a nearby grocery store. He later admitted instructing Frazier to drive away and struggling with agents, citing post-traumatic stress disorder.
The FBI said there was probable cause to charge both suspects, who have since been arraigned before a federal magistrate judge in Minnesota.
