Favour Ofili dumps Nigeria, switches allegiance to Turkey

Favour Ofili has switched allegiance from Nigeria to Turkey, blaming repeated administrative negligence by Nigerian sports authorities.

Track and field star, Favour Ofili, has officially switched her nationality from Nigeria to Turkey, citing repeated negligence by Nigerian athletics authorities.

The 22-year-old sprinter, who competes in the 100m, 150m, and 200m, confirmed the move on Monday through posts on her X handle.

Ofili, who was born in Port Harcourt, accused the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) of repeated failures that cost her opportunities at the Olympic Games.

She recalled missing the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after officials failed to notify her of mandatory drug-testing requirements and being excluded from the Paris 2024 Games due to an administrative error.

“Wrapping up my 2025 season has been a whirlwind of new experiences and big decisions,” she wrote. “Negligence towards me in Olympic (Tokyo/Paris). I have made this decision.”

The Commonwealth Games silver medalist stressed her move was not financially motivated, adding, “This change comes from the heart, not from financial motives.”
