Fatal accident claims lives on Lagos-Ibadan expressway on New Year’s Day

An unconfirmed number of passengers are feared dead following a road accident on Thursday along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway near the NASFAT axis. The collision involved an 18-seater commercial bus traveling outbound from Lagos and a truck, with witnesses reporting that the bus rammed into the truck while attempting to make a U-turn. Images and videos circulating online show unconscious passengers on the road as bystanders gathered to assist. As of the time of this report, neither the police nor the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had issued an official statement on the incident.

The accident occurred days after another fatal crash on the same expressway claimed the lives of two associates of former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua. Kevin Latif Ayodele, Joshua’s personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, died when their Lexus SUV crashed into a stationary truck, while Joshua sustained injuries. The latest incident highlights ongoing safety concerns on the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway, one of Nigeria’s major highways.
