Family cancels burial plans for gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu

Burial arrangements earlier announced for late gospel singer and worship leader, Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, have been cancelled by her family.

The cancellation was announced on Saturday through a video statement shared on Instagram by a close colleague and friend of the deceased, Lanre Alewilese. “This is to inform you that all plans and arrangements for the burial of our Late Sister and Colleague; OMIJE OJUMI, by the burial planning committee has been cancelled totally,” the caption read.

According to the family, the decision to halt all burial plans was taken due to issues arising within the singer’s family, despite ongoing preparations. They apologised to colleagues, friends and well-wishers for the inconvenience caused and said further details would be communicated in due course.

The announcement came hours after Mr Alewilese had earlier disclosed burial arrangements, including a service of songs, candlelight procession and artiste night scheduled for January 20, 2026, at the LTV 8 compound in Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos, with interment planned for the following day.

Ms Akinnaanu, a respected Yoruba gospel singer, died on January 12 in a Lagos hospital after battling health challenges.
