FAAN and MTN Nigeria have introduced free WiFi at Lagos and Abuja airports as part of a nationwide digital modernization effort that precedes a total transition to cashless operations later this month.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has partnered with MTN Nigeria to launch free, high-speed WiFi services at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Terminal 2 in Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Officially inaugurated on Thursday, February 19, 2026, the service is a pilot phase of a broader digital infrastructure rollout that FAAN’s Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, stated will be extended to other international terminals in Enugu, Port Harcourt, and Kano over the next three months.
Representing Kuku at the launch, Director of Airport Operations Capt. Abdullahi Mahmood emphasized that the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, noting, “The WiFi service, which is completely free for passengers and airport users, will be extended to the MMIA temporary terminal and other international airports across the country within the next three months.” MTN Nigeria’s Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Lynda Saint-Nwafor, added that the partnership aims to provide a reliable and secure connection for travelers, reinforcing Nigeria’s digital economy goals. This technological upgrade coincides with FAAN’s upcoming nationwide ban on physical cash transactions at all airports, which is set to take full effect on February 28, 2026.
