President Bola Tinubu has forwarded a fresh batch of non-career ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, including former Rivers Sole Administrator and ex-Naval Chief Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, former presidential aide Ita Enang, former Imo First Lady Chioma Ohakim, and former Interior Minister and Army Chief Abdulrahman Dambazau.
The nominations were read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary.
Tinubu urged the Senate to consider the nominees swiftly, while Akpabio referred the list to the Committee on Foreign Affairs for screening within one week. The president earlier submitted 32 names, comprising 15 career and 17 non-career ambassadors.
According to presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga, “There are four women on the career ambassadors’ list and six women on the non-career ambassadors’ list,” with postings coming after Senate confirmation.
