Ex-IG Ehindero warns military visibility unhealthy for democracy

Former Inspector-General of Police, Sunday Ehindero, has warned that the increasing visibility of the military in Nigeria’s civil spaces is unhealthy for democracy. Speaking at an event in Abuja, he called for a rejigging of the security architecture to ensure the military focuses more on border security.

Ehindero also clarified positions on police strength, asserting Nigeria’s large population necessitates a robust force. He reversed his long-held opposition to state police, now supporting it, and praised President Tinubu’s efforts to restore police primacy in internal security.
