EU rejects Trump’s call for Ukraine to give up territory to Russia

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas says Trump’s demand that Ukraine surrender territory to Russia sends a “dangerous message.”

The European Union’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, said on Monday that Ukraine should not be forced to surrender any territory to Russia as part of a peace deal, countering U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal.

“If we just give away the territories, then this gives a message to everybody that you can just use force against your neighbors and get what you want,” Kallas told journalists in Luxembourg after a meeting of EU foreign ministers.

Her remarks followed reports that Trump’s negotiator, Steve Witkoff, urged Kyiv to give up the Donbas region for a ceasefire. EU leaders later expressed support for President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, though some stopped short of insisting Ukraine must reclaim all occupied land.
