This elephant keeps coming into our community to destroy our crops, damage our fishing nets, and now, it has taken a life
A wild elephant reportedly killed a farmer, Musa Kalamu, at Itasin-Imobi in Ijebu East LGA of Ogun State on Monday. According to locals, the elephant wandered from a government-reserved forest and fatally attacked Kalamu on his farm.
“This elephant keeps coming into our community to destroy our crops, damage our fishing nets, and now, it has taken a life,” a resident said.
Authorities confirmed the incident. Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Taiwo Oludotun, stated, “Yes, we are aware, and we are already on our way to the community.” Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, added in a WhatsApp message, “The DPO Ogbere received information… that elephants escaped from government reserve and attacked one Musa Kalamu, who died on the way to the hospital.”
A viral video showed Kalamu’s body, with visible injuries. Villagers, heard pleading in the video, said, “The government should please come to our aid; the problem with these elephants is too much in our community.”
