Drone sightings over Denmark, Lithuania raise fears of Russian aggression

Drone incursions over Denmark and Lithuania have sparked NATO concerns as Russia escalates strikes in Ukraine, killing civilians and prompting Ukrainian retaliation.

Drones were reported over Denmark and Lithuania on Saturday, heightening concerns about Russian aggression as the war in Ukraine intensifies. Danish Armed Forces responded to sightings near military sites, days after drones disrupted flights over Copenhagen and four airports. Lithuania also confirmed drones near Vilnius’ airport. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia is “testing Europe’s ability to defend itself,” warning of efforts to sow doubt about supporting Ukraine.

Earlier this month, 92 Russian drones targeted Poland, with 19 breaching NATO airspace. Meanwhile, Russia launched new strikes on Ukraine, killing two and injuring 36, while air defenses shot down 97 of 115 drones. More than 600 civilians were evacuated in Donetsk after heavy shelling destroyed homes, high-rises, and a church.

In response, Ukraine hit a Russian oil pumping station, following Moscow’s partial diesel export ban. The escalating drone incursions have deepened fears across NATO countries.
