Driver in Anthony Joshua crash may be prosecuted for reckless driving — Source

Emerging reports indicate that the driver involved in the fatal road crash that injured former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, may face prosecution for reckless driving, according to a source familiar with the investigation.

The source explained that preliminary findings by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) suggest the vehicle was operated at excessive speed and engaged in wrongful overtaking—offences considered serious traffic violations and grounds for criminal liability when fatalities occur.

Investigators are said to be finalising documentation for the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division, which is working with prosecutors to determine potential charges.

The source also confirmed that Joshua sustained a fracture in one of his legs.

Although officials are yet to issue a formal statement, the development has intensified public scrutiny of road safety enforcement on Nigerian highways.

The accident, which took place on Monday, December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, claimed the lives of two of Joshua’s close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.

The incident has since sparked renewed debate on accountability, with many calling for stricter penalties to deter dangerous driving.
