The Rivers State House of Assembly appears divided as two lawmakers appealed to colleagues to halt moves to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof Ngozi Odu. At a press conference on Monday in Port Harcourt, the House Minority Leader, Hon Sylvanus Nwankwo, urged restraint, calling on lawmakers to “temper justice with mercy” and seek alternatives to impeachment proceedings.
Hon Peter Abbey also backed the call, saying the situation required a human approach despite constitutional breaches. “Fubara has infringed on parts of the constitution, but we are human beings,” Abbey said, adding that the governor must avoid further violations. However, the House Committee on Information Chairman, Hon Alabo Enemi George, insisted the impeachment process remains on course, saying nothing would stop it.
