Despite shutdown, marketers confirm 3,150 diesel truck supply from PHC refinery

Fuel marketers say the Port Harcourt Refining Company has continued to supply about 15 trucks of diesel daily despite its shutdown for maintenance on May 24, 2025.

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority confirmed the evacuation of 349,000 litres of diesel per day from stock produced before the shutdown. “We load a minimum of 15 trucks every day,” the Publicity Secretary of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria, Joseph Obele, said, noting that the refinery still has a large reserve of diesel.

However, there are concerns that the available diesel may run out by February 2026 unless production resumes. Obele urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to bring the refinery back on stream soon, warning, “They may run out of stock by February.”

The plant has now been shut for over seven months, despite assurances in May that maintenance would only last one month.
