Dele Momodu blasts Utomi for ruling out Obi as VP candidate

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has criticised political economist Prof Pat Utomi over comments on the political future of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Momodu reacted in a post on his official X handle on Friday, faulting Utomi’s remarks following Obi’s defection to the ADC.

Utomi had said during a Channels Television interview on Thursday that he would withdraw his support for Obi if the former Anambra State governor accepted a vice-presidential slot in the emerging opposition coalition. The comment sparked reactions within political circles.

Responding, Momodu said Utomi’s position was undemocratic, arguing that ruling out Obi as a running mate contradicts democratic principles. “Anyone insisting that Obi cannot run behind anyone is definitely not a Democrat who wishes to rescue Nigeria from a one man dictatorship,” he wrote.
