Dangote group denies involvement in fatal Ondo road accident

The Dangote Group has strongly refuted allegations linking its fleet to a fatal road accident in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo state, confirming the vehicle belongs to an independent logistics firm and urging media verification.

The Dangote Group has categorically dismissed claims linking one of its fleet trucks to a fatal road accident that occurred in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo state, earlier this week. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of at least eight people after a truck rammed into shops near Adekunle Ajasin University.

In a statement released Thursday, the conglomerate clarified that the involved vehicle, with registration number JJJ 365 XB, does not belong to the group or any of its subsidiaries. Verified records show the truck belongs to an independent logistics firm and was carrying crushed stones in reused sacks.

Dangote stressed its commitment to safety, noting that “all its trucks are distinctly branded, tracked, and operated by trained personnel under strict safety protocols.” The group called for greater accuracy in reporting, stating: “While the company deeply sympathises with all those affected by the incident, it urges members of the public and the media to verify information before attributing ownership or involvement to Dangote Group.” It also implored media outlets to stop using images of branded Dangote trucks in unrelated accident reports.
