Six years after his mysterious abduction, Kaduna-based influencer Abubakar Idris, known as Dadiyata, has been confirmed dead following a private investigation led by social critic Damilola Adekunle.
Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata, a Kaduna-based social media influencer who disappeared over six years ago, has been confirmed dead.
The revelation was made by social critic Damilola Adekunle, who led a self-funded investigation into his disappearance.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce that after thorough investigations, I can confirm that Idris Abubakar, popularly known as Dadiyata, is officially dead. #Dadiyata was killed,” she wrote on Facebook.
Dadiyata was abducted on August 2, 2019, by unknown gunmen at his home in Barnawa, Kaduna. His disappearance sparked national outrage, widely believed to be politically motivated due to his criticism of politicians and support for Rabiu Kwankwaso.
On May 4, 2025, Adekunle launched a ₦10 million fund to solicit credible information about his fate.
Amnesty International and Dadiyata’s family had long demanded answers. His mother, who died in 2022, had not lived to learn of his fate.
The circumstances of his death remain undisclosed.
