The FCT High Court has scheduled ten specific dates through June 2025 to conclude the trial of former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele regarding the controversial naira redesign policy.
An Abuja High Court has scheduled 10 additional hearing days between February and June to conclude the trial of former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele. Justice Maryann Anenih fixed the dates following an agreement between the EFCC and the defense, urging both sides to “adhere strictly to the schedule” to ensure the 2024 case reaches a resolution.
During Wednesday’s proceedings, an EFCC investigator testified that while the Presidency approved the naira redesign, it was strictly “with a proviso that it must be done locally.” The witness alleged that the notes were instead printed abroad. He also admitted that video evidence of citizen hardship used by the prosecution was sourced from the internet rather than direct interviews.
