Could you qualify for Meta’s $50 million payout?

Over 300,000 Australians can claim part of Meta’s $50 million settlement for the Cambridge Analytica breach before December 31.

More than 311,000 Australians may be entitled to a share of $50 million from Meta following a landmark settlement over the Cambridge Analytica privacy breach. The Australian Information Commissioner reached the agreement with Meta last year.

Australians who had Facebook accounts between November 2, 2013, and December 17, 2015, and were in the country for at least 30 days during that period are eligible. Those affected must have either installed the “This Is Your Digital Life” app or been friends with someone who did.

Claims opened on June 30 and close on December 31. Consultancy firm KPMG is administering the program.

The OAIC warned users to beware of scammers. “Never give personal information to anyone calling you out of the blue,” it said, advising victims to contact their banks immediately if targeted.
