CNN’s Abby Phillip sharply mocked MAGA-aligned guests Scott Jennings and Ben Shapiro for naively believing that Donald Trump’s summit with Vladimir Putin would yield a serious peace deal, highlighting that no ceasefire followed, while Russia continued its assaults on Ukraine.
In a recent episode of NewsNight, CNN host, Abby Phillip, took aim at conservative guest Scott Jennings over his assertion that former President Donald Trump could broker a credible peace deal with Russia. Jennings, alongside Ben Shapiro, expressed optimism following Trump’s Alaska summit with President Putin, despite yielding no concrete ceasefire proposals.
Phillip countered with a heavy dose of sarcasm, “But Scott, who could have thought… that this summit was not going to produce the results that you and Trump thought it would?” rolling her eyes at the notion that Putin was serious about peace.
Trump had claimed the two sides were “pretty close to a deal,” yet subsequent developments exposed the hollowness of such claims: no ceasefire, no press questions, just vague statements, while Russia intensified attacks on Ukrainian and international sites.
Jim Jennings defended Trump, saying, “The alternative was not to try, so he tried,” but Phillip retorted that Putin calling Trump’s bluff was “entirely predictable” and that only “folks like you two and Donald Trump” believed otherwise.
