Chelsea’s Mudryk charged with doping, faces lengthy ban

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with doping by the FA and could face a four-year ban.

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been formally charged by the Football Association (FA) for violating anti-doping regulations, following a positive test for the banned substance meldonium.

Mudryk had already been provisionally suspended last year after a positive ‘A’ sample, and the FA confirmed the charge this week, stating: “We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations… As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further.”

The 24-year-old, who hasn’t played for Chelsea since November and has been barred from training at Cobham, insists he did not knowingly take any banned substance.

In December, Mudryk said: “This has come as a complete shock… I know that I have not done anything wrong.”

He has hired Morgan Sports Law, which previously worked with Paul Pogba in a similar doping case. Chelsea continue to support the player, who lost his No.10 shirt to Cole Palmer this summer.
