Former U.S. President Barack Obama has named Burna Boy, Olamide, Asake and Seyi Vibez among his favourite songs of 2025, spotlighting Nigerian music on the global stage once again. Mr Obama unveiled the list on Instagram, continuing a tradition he began during his White House years of sharing annual recommendations across music, books and films.
The playlist features songs across Afrobeats, pop, hip-hop, rock and alternative genres from artists around the world. Nigerian entries include Tatata by Burna Boy featuring Travis Scott, and 99 by Olamide featuring Daecolm, Seyi Vibez, Asake and Young Jonn.
“As 2025 comes to a close, I’m continuing a tradition that I started during my time in the White House: sharing my annual lists of favourite books, movies, and music. I hope you find something new to enjoy—and please send any recommendations for me to check out!” Mr Obama wrote.
Nigerian musicians have appeared consistently on Mr Obama’s annual music lists, reflecting the growing global influence of Afrobeats. Burna Boy and Olamide have featured in previous editions, while Asake and Seyi Vibez continue to gain international recognition following a strong year of performances, tours and collaborations.
