President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has revealed that Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy was briefly held by customs officials at a Moroccan airport over an issue relating to his jewellery. Motsepe disclosed this during a recent press conference, explaining that the incident occurred while the artiste was travelling to Morocco to headline the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Fan Zone concert in Rabat.
According to Motsepe, the matter was resolved following his personal intervention. “Recently was called that I need intervene because Burna Boy was stopped at the airport after customs officers noticed his heavy and beautiful gold jewellery. I intervened and it was resolved,” he said. Burna Boy later went on to headline the TotalEnergies AFCON Fan Zone concert in Rabat on January 16, alongside performances by Ghanaian singer Stonebwoy and Moroccan artistes Stormy and Jaylann.
