Former Chief of Army Staff, retired Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has threatened legal action against Sahara Reporters and retired Maj.-Gen. Danjuma Ali-Keffi over allegations linking him to terrorism financing. In a statement issued by retired Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, he dismissed the claims as “fabricated, unfounded and mischievous,” insisting no security agency or judicial panel had ever questioned or indicted him for such activities.
Buratai said the report relied solely on Ali-Keffi’s claims and was aimed at tarnishing his reputation, accusing Sahara Reporters of a pattern of targeted attacks. He noted that his 40-year career was defined by fighting Boko Haram and ISWAP, adding, “It defies logic to suggest that the same person who led decisive actions against terrorism would be associated with the very elements he spent his career confronting.” He demanded an immediate retraction and apology or he would initiate legal proceedings.
