An armed group has claimed responsibility for the attack on Ngoshe community in Gwoza, where scores of soldiers and civilians were reportedly killed and more than 300 residents abducted on Wednesday night. The attackers also burned a military base, homes and shops during the assault.
In a video circulating online, a spokesman for the group said, “We thank God Almighty for helping us to succeed in our mission in Ngoshe… With the help of God, we have already conquered the town.” He added that they intended to celebrate Eid al-Fitr prayers in the community.
Authorities confirmed the attack, with police spokesperson ASP Nahum Daso stating that several residents remain missing and may have been taken towards the Mandara Mountains. The Borno State Government said relief materials and healthcare support had been sent to survivors sheltering in Pulka.
