Bondi fires Jan. 6 prosecutors in ‘horrifying’ move

The attorneys were informed in letters signed by Bondi that they were “removed from federal service effective immediately.”

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has fired at least three career Justice Department prosecutors who worked on cases tied to the January 6 Capitol attack, NBC News reported Friday.

In letters signed by Bondi, the attorneys were told they were “removed from federal service effective immediately” without further explanation.

One federal law enforcement official called the move “horrifying,” adding: “No one is safe from this administration’s whims and impulses. And the public certainly is not served by the continued brain drain of DOJ—we are losing the best among us every day.”

This marks the first time career DOJ prosecutors have been dismissed over their work prosecuting the January 6 rioters, whom President Donald Trump previously pardoned en masse.

The Justice Department declined to comment.

Trump earlier defended January’s targeted FBI firings, saying: “If they fired some people over there, that’s a good thing, because they were very bad. They were very corrupt people.”
