Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has announced free education from Basic One to Nine, launched the BRACE-UP initiative, and pledged continued support for teachers and out-of-school children.

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia declared free education from Basic One to Nine in all government schools during the first Benue Basic Education Summit at Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi. He said the policy aimed to support poor and vulnerable children, adding, “No child of school age is left out of school,” while highlighting his administration’s recruitment of over 9,700 teachers and consistent salary payments.

The governor also launched the “Building Rights to Access and Compulsory Education for Un-enrolled Pupils (BRACE-UP)” initiative to identify and enrol out-of-school children, track learning progress, and create flexible pathways. He assured continued funding and policy support, and promised retirees their arrears, saying, “You have taught me and I won’t cheat you,” while the Nigerian Union of Teachers presented him a golden award for education and teacher friendliness.
