Benue governor Alia dissolves cabinet, sacks commissioners and Chief of Staff

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has dissolved the state executive council, sacking all commissioners while announcing a new Chief of Staff.

The announcement was made on Tuesday at the close of the 12th executive council meeting of 2025. Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Terso Kula, confirmed that only the commissioners were affected by the dissolution.

In a swift replacement, the governor named Barr. Moses Atagher, a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, as the new Chief of Staff. Atagher also previously served as acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank.

Governor Alia thanked the outgoing commissioners for their two years of service, urging continued support for the administration. “Those who may not be reappointed should remain in the party and continue to support us,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the sacked commissioners, Barr. Bemsen Mnyim appreciated the governor for the opportunity, calling their service “a learning process.”

The commissioners were directed to hand over to the permanent secretaries of their ministries.
