Benin issues arrest warrants over foiled coup, seeks regional cooperation

The government of Benin Republic has issued arrest warrants for suspects linked to a foiled coup attempt, with President Patrice Talon calling for regional cooperation to secure their arrest and extradition. Talon announced the decision at a press conference in Cotonou on Thursday.

Speaking at the Marina Palace, Talon identified Pascal Tigri as the alleged ringleader, saying he and accomplices fled across borders after the plot failed. He confirmed airstrikes targeted some conspirators, though key figures escaped capture.

“Tigri himself left the camp in civilian clothes and in a car… When the strike took place, he was no longer there,” Talon said. “So they were able to cross the border… We asked the concerned countries to cooperate and deliver them to us,” he added, stressing accountability for those involved.
