Afrobeats star Rema has revealed that his pre-show routine includes drinking tequila, smoking cigarettes and praying before stepping on stage.
Rema, born Divine Ikubor, has opened up about his pre-show rituals, revealing that he drinks alcohol, smokes cigarettes and prays before going on stage to perform. The Afrobeats artiste made the disclosure in an interview with Dazed on the sidelines of the Milan Fashion Week, where he walked the runway for Diesel.
Speaking about how he prepares mentally and physically before performances, Rema said he ensures that everything is properly set with his team while observing personal rituals. “A little Tequila, a little cigarette, pray, tap in with the team and make sure everything is on cue,” he stated when asked about his pre-show rituals.
The singer also compared performing on stage with modelling on the runway, noting that live performances demand more energy and control. According to him, “performing has a lot to do with your breathwork and you have to keep the crowd going,” stressing that performing is more stressful than walking on the runway.
