Turaki’s call for Trump to save Nigeria’s democracy is ‘high treason’ – Bayo Onanuga

Bayo Onanuga has accused Kabiru Turaki of “high treason” after the PDP factional chairman urged US President Donald Trump to intervene in Nigeria’s political crisis.

Bayo Onanuga, special adviser on information and strategy to President Bola Tinubu, has condemned Kabiru Turaki, factional national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for calling on US President Donald Trump to intervene in Nigeria’s internal political dispute. The criticism was issued on Wednesday, according to a report from THECABLE.

Turaki made the appeal on Tuesday after gaining entry into the PDP headquarters in Abuja, following a tense confrontation between rival party supporters. He urged Trump and the international community to “come and save democracy in Nigeria,” adding, “I want to call on President Trump; what is at stake is not just genocide against Nigerian Christians… He should come and save democracy in Nigeria.”

Reacting, Onanuga described the remark as unforgivable. “We shall never forget this video: the day a Nigerian politician committed high treason for calling for a foreign invasion of Nigeria, all because of an intra-party dispute,” he wrote.

TheCable noted that Trump recently warned of possible military action in Nigeria if the government “continues to allow the killing of Christians,” vowing to go in “guns-a-blazing.”

Meanwhile, clashes broke out at the PDP headquarters as supporters from the Turaki-led faction and the Nyesom Wike-aligned bloc engaged in violent confrontations. Police fired teargas to disperse the crowd after fights erupted outside Wadata Plaza.
