A soldier has been killed and several others injured after armed bandits ambushed the convoy of Rep. Mohammed Jafaru along the Lumma–Babanna Road in Niger State.
Armed bandits have ambushed the convoy of Mohammed Jafaru, the member representing Borgu and Agwara Federal Constituency of Niger State, killing a soldier and injuring several others.
The attack occurred on Tuesday afternoon along the Lumma–Babanna Road in Borgu Local Government Area, a corridor notorious for bandit incursions.
Sources told PREMIUM TIMES the assault was staged by a faction led by Mamuda, a commander linked to Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda affiliate operating in the Sahel.
The ambush reportedly took place between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. as the lawmaker’s convoy approached Babanna, near the Benin Republic border.
Witnesses said at least 11 vehicles were damaged, including those conveying security personnel and aides.
Mr Jafaru was reportedly travelling to Babanna for an official engagement when the attack occurred.
