Badenoch says UK should reject immigrants from countries allowing child marriage, criminalising LGBTQ people

Kemi Badenoch, leader of the UK’s Conservative Party, says the country should reject immigrants from nations that promote child marriage or criminalise LGBTQ individuals.

Kemi Badenoch, leader of the UK’s Conservative Party, says the country should reject immigrants from nations that promote child marriage or criminalise LGBTQ individuals. In a CNN interview with Fareed Zakaria on Sunday, Badenoch said cultural values incompatible with British principles risk altering the nation’s identity.

“Culture matters more,” she said. “If you have a large number of people who don’t believe in those things, eventually your country will change.”

Badenoch, of Nigerian descent, said cultures where “homosexuals, gay people are treated criminally and killed” or where “women are less as citizens” are not equal to UK norms. She also accused some asylum seekers of exploiting the system.

“We have people pretending, for instance, to be homosexual… They’re abusing the laws,” she claimed.

Badenoch stressed she would only welcome immigrants who are “net contributors,” saying she would not tolerate people trying to create a “mini-Nigeria” within the UK.
