Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s bloc within the African Democratic Party has reportedly begun scouting for a southern running mate ahead of the 2027 election, with sources revealing that Peter Obi is the preferred choice and Rotimi Amaechi the fallback option if Obi declines.
Dele Momodu urged Obi to join Atiku, calling the alliance the strongest opposition front, warning that “if Peter Obi does not take advantage of a ready-made union between him and Atiku… it would be as good as working for Tinubu to come back.” While Momodu argued that Amaechi remains a powerful political force, the Obidient Movement reaffirmed Obi’s own 2027 ambition and insisted that “the Presidency is already in the South,” positioning Obi as the best path to defeating President Tinubu.
Meanwhile, Amaechi’s camp signaled he is focused on securing the ADC presidential ticket, even as Atiku formally moves to register with the party after months of speculation.
