Arsenal are close to sealing a €73.5million deal for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, with only final details delaying completion.
The package includes €63.5m upfront and €10m in add-ons, though negotiations over the structure of bonuses caused a temporary delay. Talks are now at an advanced stage.
Gyokeres, 27, was intent on joining Arsenal, ignoring other interest. His agent waived commission to ensure the move, and a contract until 2030 is ready. Sporting president Frederico Varandas earlier said Gyokeres would face a “heavy fine” and apologise for missing pre-season.
After scoring 54 goals in 52 games last season, the Swedish international was identified as Arsenal’s top striker target. Injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz left the Gunners short up front in 2024-25, when they finished second.
Gyokeres joined Sporting from Coventry in 2023 and has netted 97 goals since. He’s expected to add physicality and directness to Mikel Arteta’s attack.
