Appeal court dismisses Nnamdi Kanu’s rights violation suit

The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal on Friday dismissed an appeal by IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu challenging alleged violations of his fundamental rights by the Federal Government. A three-member panel ruled the case had become academic, noting that Kanu is already serving a life sentence at the Sokoto Correction Centre following his November 20 conviction on seven terrorism charges by the Federal High Court.

Justice Boloukuromo Ugo, delivering the lead judgment, confirmed that Kanu’s preference for prison custody had been satisfied, and denied his request for transfer from DSS custody to Kuje Prison. The court therefore struck out the appeal for lack of merit, closing the legal challenge against his conviction.
