A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has said supporters of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, who fail to join the party following his defection can no longer be regarded as true members of the Obidient Movement.
Okonkwo made the assertion on Friday while speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, noting that Obi had now clearly directed his supporters to formally register with the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections. “He said all the Obidients should go and register as members of the ADC. So if you are an Obidient and you’re not in the ADC, sorry, you’re not an Obidient, you are a disObidient,” he said.
The lawyer, who is a member of the ADC National Working Committee, said the party was founded on strict democratic principles and would not compromise its internal processes. “Anybody you see in the ADC is allowed to get into the ADC on one condition: you must be a true democrat,” Okonkwo stated, adding that the party discouraged conditional entry to ensure discipline and a solid foundation.
He also claimed that the South-East had aligned with the ADC, warning that politicians from the zone who chose other platforms were indirectly supporting the ruling party, while stressing that he would support whoever emerges as the ADC’s presidential candidate.
