Anthony Joshua survives Lagos-Ibadan expressway crash, two team members die

Two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua was hospitalized Monday after a collision on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Makun, Ogun State. The black Lexus SUV carrying the 36-year-old boxer hit a stationary truck around 11 a.m. local time. Joshua sustained minor injuries and is in a stable condition, receiving treatment and observation.

The crash killed Joshua’s long-term coach Sina Ghami and personal trainer Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele at the scene. Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo said, “This is an unbelievable loss.” Rivals paid tribute, with Usyk writing, “This is an unbelievable loss,” while Paul said, “Life is much more important than boxing.” Joshua was seated in the rear when the collision occurred.
