The trial of Anthony Joshua’s driver over a fatal road crash in Sagamu has been adjourned to 23 February after a medical doctor failed to appear in court. The adjournment was granted despite the presence of three witnesses, including officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE).
Adeniyi Kayode, 46, is facing four counts bordering on dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and operating a vehicle without a valid national driver’s licence. He was granted bail in the sum of £2,600.
Kayode is accused of causing the accident on 29 December when a black Lexus SUV conveying the former world heavyweight boxing champion and his companions collided with a parked truck on the Lagos-Ibadan highway, resulting in the deaths of Joshua’s close associates, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele. Joshua reportedly sustained minor injuries in the crash, while the driver of the truck allegedly fled the scene.
The case, which has drawn attention within and beyond the boxing community, was adjourned to allow the prosecution secure medical evidence as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue.
