Angola defeated Mali 70-43 in Luanda to win their 12th Afrobasket title, reclaiming the crown 10 years after losing it to Nigeria.
Angola regained the Afrobasket men’s championship on Sunday, defeating Mali 70-43 in Luanda to lift their 12th continental title, a decade after losing the crown to Nigeria’s D’Tigers in Tunisia.
Ranked third in Africa and 33rd globally, Angola dominated the match from start to finish, outscoring Mali in all four quarters: 14-10, 18-10, 19-11, and 19-12. The victory underscored their superiority over Mali, who are ranked 12th in Africa and 83rd in the world.
Childe Dundao emerged as the top scorer with 16 points, though his shooting efficiency was just 11 percent. Mali’s Aliou Diarra posted a higher efficiency at 15 percent but could not turn the tide for his side.
The triumph marked Angola’s first appearance in the final since their 2015 defeat to Nigeria and confirmed their return to dominance on African basketball’s biggest stage.
