The Anambra State Police Command says operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Special Enforcement Team have arrived in the state to enforce the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties. Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu confirmed the deployment in a statement on Monday, saying the command is committed to supporting the IGP’s reforms aimed at improving professionalism, discipline, and manpower optimisation across the country.
According to the command, the withdrawal directive will strengthen public policing, improve response capabilities, and ensure more officers are available for core duties. “The Anambra State Police Command today, December 8, 2025, formally received operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit deployed to the state to ensure full implementation of the IGP’s directive on the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties,” the statement said. All area commanders and divisional heads have been directed to support the enforcement.
