Amuneke confirmed he received his house long ago and called on authorities to fulfil the pledge to his former teammates.
Former Super Eagles star Emmanuel Amuneke has urged the Federal Government to fast-track the distribution of promised houses to the remaining members of Nigeria’s 1994 Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad.
Amuneke confirmed he received his house long ago and called on authorities to fulfil the pledge to his former teammates.
“They should hand over to the others now. Let them do it,” Amuneke told The PUNCH.
His comments come as the Federal Government continues implementation of the three-decade-old promise. Recently, former striker Efan Ekoku was allocated a house in Abuja, with his niece Lisa Nwagbogun receiving the letter on his behalf.
The Ministry of Housing described the move as part of efforts to honour the squad’s patriotic service. The housing pledge, made in 1994 after Nigeria’s AFCON triumph in Tunisia, was formally approved by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2022.
The iconic team, which defeated Zambia 2–1 in the final, remains one of the most celebrated in Nigerian football history.
