The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, has dismissed social media reactions to a viral video showing him seated while greeting the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, at a First Lady-hosted event in Ibadan. Through his aide Kolade Oladele, the monarch condemned the controversy as “a deliberate attempt by bloggers to sow discord” among Yoruba rulers, calling it a distraction from pressing regional issues like insecurity and economic hardship.
Reaffirming his respect for the Ooni, Alaafin Owoade emphasized his commitment to royal unity, stating: “Traditional institutions must remain agents of development, not online spectacles.” He urged the public to reject divisive narratives and support inter-royal collaboration for Yorubaland’s progress.
