Akpabio has warned that Nigeria’s rail system has severely deteriorated, prompting the Senate to launch a probe into the failing Abuja–Kaduna train service.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Thursday lamented the sharp decline of Nigeria’s rail services, saying bicycles, motorcycles and tricycles are now faster than the Abuja–Kaduna train. He made the remark during plenary while reviewing deteriorating rail operations on the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano corridor.
“After operating for barely 10 years, the Abuja–Kaduna train service has dropped drastically… even Keke Napep will get to Kaduna faster than the train,” Akpabio said. He announced a six-week Senate probe, chaired by Adams Oshiomhole, to investigate the rail sector’s decay and recommend urgent interventions.
