Chief of Air Staff Sunday Aneke has visited the Nigerian Air Force Alpha Jet pilots who safely ejected after their aircraft developed a fault shortly after take-off during a post-inspection functional check flight at NAF Base Kainji. The jet crashed on Saturday in a community in Borgu LGA, Niger State. The air force said the pilots steered the aircraft away from populated areas before ejecting and are now undergoing routine medical evaluation.
Aneke praised the aircrew for their “courage, professionalism and sound judgment” and ordered the immediate constitution of a board of inquiry to investigate the incident. The NAF said its search and rescue, fire response, crash response and medical teams responded promptly, adding that the incident highlights the risks of military aviation and reaffirming its commitment to strict safety standards and public protection.
